Allergy Alert

Today was an exciting day at our house.  Not a good kind of exciting but the scary kind of exciting.

I was at work all morning when we my cell phone rang around 12:30.  I looked down and it was the girl's school calling.  I was not alarmed as I had emailed the secretary the day before with a question so I thought she was just calling me about that.  Boy was I wrong.  I answered and it was the other secretary calmly telling me that Sophia had taken a tiny bite of a candy bar that contained peanuts.  For those of you who do not know Sophia has a SEVERE peanut allergy.  She is the type of kid that can not even sit next to someone who is eating a peanut butter sandwich.  Just smelling it can cause a reaction.  We carry an epi pen everywhere we go and they keep one with her at all times at school.

So imagine my alarm when I receive the call!!  I told them to give her a benedryl immediately.  I talked them through what to  watch for in case they needed to use the epi pen and that I would leave and head straight there.  Thankfully she did not ingest any of the peanut.  She took only a tiny bite and spit it out immediately.  

The children in her class are all aware of her allergy so they were quite alarmed as well.  I was told there were several children crying (including Sophia).  To top it all off there was a substitute teacher (bless her heart).   I talked to her when I got there and she was taking some aspirin and going for a Dt. Coke! Ha!  I am pretty sure she doesn't get paid enough for all of today's excitement!!

Praise the Lord, Sophia is fine.  She has had two rounds of benedryl and seems to be doing fine.  I brought her home and she took a little nap and seemed fine the rest of the night.  I am so grateful to all those at her school that helped and am thanking the Lord for keeping my little angel safe today!!

Happy Birthday Daniel

I was blessed with one sister Amy (who by the way has a really cool blog too).  We are five years apart in age but the best of friends.  However, we live 9 hours away from each other.  Her husband, Dennis is a pastor in Denham Springs, Louisiana and we are in NE Florida sooooo we don't always get to see each other that much.  She has two boys, Charles who is 11 and Daniel who is about to be 7.  I love these boys SO much.  They are SO different from my two little ladies and it is so much fun when all the kids are together.

This past Thursday they came to town as I mentioned in an earlier blog for about a total of 48 hours.  Don't get me wrong I would take 48 minutes with them.  I was just happy to see them.  It was kind of a last minute deal but we decided to have a little party for Daniel who is turning 7 this Saturday.  It is rare that we get to celebrate the kids birthdays together so we had a little party.  Again, I emphasize that we literally threw it together in just a few hours.  It was fun and I think he was surprised and tickled!!

Happy Birthday Daniel!  I am so glad we were able to celebrate with you!  You are such a sweet, little gentleman.  One of my most favorite things is to hear you pray.  You are a gift from God!!

Favorite Things

Right now there are a few things I am loving and I thought I would share...

How cute is this soap dispenser?  I had these really pretty glass soap dispensers in my bathroom but it became apparent they were not going to make it through my two little ladies.  So I am going to pull them out when company comes but in the mean time we will be using these cuties...don't worry I am going to get Mickey for my hubby (I know he will love it...NOT!).

BelVita!!!  YUMMY!!  OK, for the non breakfast lovers out there this is for you.  I am not a huge lover of breakfast however, I know that it is a very important step in starting your day out right so this is my go to.  They are so good.  They have three flavors apples & cinnamon, blueberry and golden oat.  My favorite is golden oat but it is also the only one I have tried.  I am a creature of habit.  Let me know if you have tried the other flavors...would love to know your favorite.  Anyways, my girls love them and make for a great breakfast when paired with yogurt!!  Plus you can eat it on the go!

I love note cards!!!!  I love note cards that are personalized in some way and I love when they are cheap!!  I found these the other day and thought they were so cute and only a dollar.  I love black, white, and hot pink together!

Best thing is you can purchase ALL three of these items at Target!!!  Happy shopping!!!

When It Rains It Pours

I don't think I ever shared the story about Michael's foot but that is what really started it all.  It was a month ago that he sliced his foot open on an oyster bed at the beach.  He had gone fishing for the afternoon/evening and when he came home he said he had cut his foot.  More like he sliced it open.  I won't share all the details or pictures but it was nasty and deep.  It was late on Friday night by the time he finally got home so he just went to the Dr. the next morning.  They gave him a tetanus shot and some antibiotics.  Ten days later he starts with the rash (see previous posts).  So on Wednesday Michaela starts complaining of a headache and a sore throat.  I started thinking this is not good.

Thursday we had a BIG surprise for the girls.  My sister and her family were in for 24 hours and the girls did not know.  I had decided to keep them home from school on Friday so they could spend it with their cousins.  The girls had finished their week of testing at school and were ready for a break so it worked perfectly.  By Thursday night Michaela was not feeling well at all.  Just a nasty cold but sometimes those are the worst.

We had an awesome time with Amy and her family.  They were really coming so my sister Amy could speak at a  Mother/Daughter banquet and my bro-in-law Dennis could preach at a church in Rincon, Georgia.  (Hi Wendy!!)  Rather then go straight there they spent the day with us on Friday and will swing back by tomorrow.  Dennis is going to preach for Michael tomorrow night and then they will leave on Monday.

So last night when we got home Sophia started sneezing.  I keep telling them to please share something else besides colds!!  She was one sick little girl today.  Miserable would describe her.  So we had a very calm day at the house.  Michael is no longer quarantined.  So he spent the day at the office and we stayed home ALL day.  And we...

read lots of books and...

played their new favorite game...Battleship!! (by the way just in case you are wondering it takes longer than candy land and chutes & ladders)...

and watched some movies!!

I am so ready for EVERYONE (and by that I mean...Mom, Dad, Michael Michaela and Sophia) to be healthy!!  There has just been lots of sickness/injuries/ weird stuff going on.  I just feel like when it rains it pours.  I am ready for it to dry up!  Please don't get me wrong.  I know none of this is life threatening but it just makes life challenging.

Joseph ~ Part II

After we got all ready at Gram's house we headed to the school.  The kids had to be there early so they had snacks set up for the parents while we waited.  The theme of the night was "Diamonds and Denim" so lots of people were decked out in western wear!  The girls both had their boots on.  They can't wear them to school so they just wear them every other waking moment.  I love their little boots.  Their principle had the cutest red boots on so she took a "shoe pic" with the girls.

Love this...We LOVE Mrs. Johnson.  She is such a sweet and godly woman.  We are blessed to know her!!

Here are the girls right before they headed in to get set up.  Each class wore a different color t shirt which represented Joseph's coat of many colors.  Very cute!

Both of the girls sang a little solo line in two different songs.  They were both so excited.  I am so grateful for people like Mrs. Whitfield who inspire our girls to use their gifts to bring glory to the Lord!!

After the program the school had a barbecue dinner and silent auction.  It was lots of fun!  The girls had a blast hanging out with their friends.  It was a nice night of fellowship.

Sophia was walking around taking pictures with my phone and one of the teachers took a picture of her. Love her Minnie Mouse Bow...thanks Auntie Mimi & Grammy!!

It was a great night filled with lots of great memories!!

Joseph ~ Part I

A few weeks ago the girl had a musical at school. It was based on the Bible character Joseph. The songs were packed with lessons and we had many discussions about his life and what we can learn from him.

This was really the first "big" program that the girls had been a part of.  They LOVED it.  They both were given a solo line in a song.  I was a nervous wreck but they did GREAT.  I am so thankful that they stepped up to the mic (literally) and gave it their all.  I hope they always want to serve God with boldness!!

Our fun night started at Grammy's house.  We needed to get baths, change and get all ready for the performance.  Daddy snapped some pictures before we left.  Ok, Daddy took a lot of pictures...

I love that these precious girls are not just sisters but best friends.  Love how they hold hands in pictures!!!

My goal is to have a real quality post tonight but we will see.  Life has been really busy.  Oh, and by the way...he does have CHICKENPOX!!  Go figure!! ha!
